Bànay sits on Tourism Road and does a lot of things well enough that you’ll end up coming back for different reasons. The fried mortadella sandwich and egg salad croissant are the savory anchors worth ordering first. The ham and cheese croissant is properly crunchy, not the sad soggy version you get everywhere else. The gelato is the real surprise – pistachio that actually tastes like pistachio, coconut passionfruit, and a cheese flavor that sounds wrong but isn’t. Sampling is allowed up to three flavors, which is the correct policy. They also do affogato and, somewhat unexpectedly, German beer on tap. Bakery items go half-price after 7pm, which makes the chocolate muffin an easy decision on any budget. Hours run until 10:30pm, so this is also a legitimate evening option when you want good food without karaoke bleeding through the walls.
