Kayan runs on the strength of its staff – specifically two hostesses who multiple guests have called the best they’ve encountered anywhere. The kind of place where the crew knows your name, pulls you into communal dinners, and actually solves problems instead of shrugging at them. (Guests literally call the staff ‘mom.’ That’s either a red flag or a green flag depending on your travel style, and here it’s firmly green.) It sits between Cloud 9 and General Luna, which is the right call – close enough to surf, far enough that you’re not getting bass-thumped at 2am. Rooms and common spaces lean into the jungle aesthetic without trying too hard. This is a newer operation, and it shows in patches – some guests hit broken AC or no hot water, and a few basics have been missing on certain stays. The staff fixes things fast when flagged, but you’re rolling the dice slightly on whether everything’s working on arrival.
