Bajala sits on Malinao beach, 8-10 minutes from General Luna, which means you get the sunrise over the water instead of tricycle noise outside your window. It’s the hostel for people who want the social hostel stuff (pool, common areas, easy to meet people solo) without giving up an actual comfortable bed and a clean bathroom. If your whole trip revolves around walking distance to GL bars, this isn’t it, but if you’ve got a scooter, the extra ten minutes buys you a much quieter stay. Rooms are spacious and properly clean, mattresses are notably good, and breakfast is included with a free drink during happy hour. The restaurant does Indian food that’s better than you’d expect on a surf island, order the thali or whatever’s on the mango shake menu that day. There’s a pool, a kitchen, and scooter rental on site, so you can base yourself here and never need to touch a jeepney. The rules are stricter than most hostels (no diving in the pool, no outside food, no smoking poolside), which is either a non-issue or mildly annoying depending on your personality. Reception can run a bit script-bound, so don’t expect much flexibility on checkout times or improvised favors. Fine for a relaxed, work-from-the-restaurant kind of stay, less fine if you want total spontaneity or to be twenty steps from the main strip.
